Questions About the iStudio Salons Concept & Becoming an Owner

How do I know if I'm ready for iStudio Salons?

Take a moment to evaluate your client list. Do you have a loyal base of clients who provide you with a consistent stream of income? That’s what’s most important. Because we work together as a community of independent salon owners, the community thrives only when each independent stylist is successful—that’s why we actively seek experienced stylists with loyal client lists. If you’re not sure that you’re ready, call us today--or send an email to Barbara Joseph at barbara@istudiosalons.com. We’re more than happy to discuss your unique situation.

How much money does it take to become an owner at iStudio Salons?

The only money you need prior to opening your studio is a security deposit equal to two weeks’ rent. While you’ll probably want to spend some money decorating your salon to fit your vision, we provide the shampoo bowl, a styling chair, custom cabinetry, an anti-fatigue mat, and a separate storage cabinet so that you can be up-and-running immediately and without a lot of expense.

How much more money could I make by making the switch to iStudio Salons?

There are no guarantees, but there is thorough research showing that salon professionals often show a 30% or more increase in take-home earnings when compared to traditional commission-based salons.

If I contact you, will it be confidential?

Absolutely! We take your privacy very seriously and guarantee your complete confidentiality. We understand that you have questions, and we simply want to give you the opportunity to comfortably get as much information as possible. We have found the best way for you to explore this opportunity is with a “live” conversation, and this is why we promise 100% confidentiality when you call us or submit any information.

Do you ever see my client list?

No. Your client list is yours, and yours alone. Nobody will ever see your client list. Your private information will be kept private. However, we can help you determine if owning an iStudio Salon is right for you based on the approximate number of recurring clients you have, but we will never ask to see your actual list.

I've never had my own salon. Where do I start?

Everything starts with a phone call. We'll show you exactly how to start your salon—and how to make a smooth, comfortable, and profitable transition into salon ownership. We know it may seem overwhelming at first, but rest assured that your success does not depend on your business experience. Your success will be determined through your talent, your ability to creatively serve your clients, and your ability to maintain and grow your client list. We believe strongly that by taking the “thinking” out of owning your own salon, you can focus on what you do best—serving your clients. After you choose your studio, and make a nominal deposit equal to two weeks’ rent, you receive our Salon Success Kit and the full support of the community. Everything you need to know—including where to get your salon license, where to get insurance, and who to contact for more business cards—is in the kit. It’s straightforward and easy to understand. But we don’t hand you the kit and walk away. If you still have questions (and you most likely will) we are always just a text, phone call or email away.

How long before I'm up and running in my new salon?

Plan 2 - 4 weeks from the moment you say “yes” to the moment you welcome your first appointment to your new salon. However, everything starts with a phone call. We’ll talk over the phone, meet in-person and tour iStudio Salons together. If we mutually decide that we’re a good fit, then we sign a license agreement (with a minimum commitment of nine months) and a few weeks later you’re seeing your first clients in your new iStudio!

Do I have to sign a contract? How long are the contracts? Can I get out of my contract?

Most stylists feel most comfortable with a one-year license agreement. However, we do give you the option to walk away from your first license agreement after only nine months if you feel that is best. While there is a little bit of that mumbo jumbo lawyer stuff in the contract, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to see how straightforward and easy-to-understand it is. If you have any concerns about signing the contract, you are more than welcome to have it reviewed by an attorney. We value complete transparency and have put everything in place for you to succeed; when you are successful, the entire iStudio Salons community is successful.

What about my current clients? Will they love my new iStudio?

Absolutely! Wait until you see your gorgeous new digs. Plus, your clients are going to love the privacy, personal attention, and stunning spaces here at iStudio Salons! Salon communities feel more exclusive. Think about it. Does your customer really like to have a conversation that is overheard by everyone else in the room? Does she enjoy sitting in front of strangers with curlers or foil in her hair? Thousands of customers around the country have fallen in love with the salon community concept, and iStudio Salons has raised the standard, improved the experience, and is ready to give you the environment your clients crave—all with your name on the door.

How do I let my current clients know that I am opening my own iStudio?

That's the fun part! You receive support from the iStudio Salons community, which also includes our pre-screened and trusted preferred vendors. In fact, to make your transition to your new iStudio smooth, comfortable, and profitable, we have a marketing firm ready to handle your “launch.” In a sense, our marketing firm becomes your personal marketing firm, too. In fact, to make sure your schedule is packed right from day one, you'll get a stack of high-impact "I've Moved!" cards to send your clientele. Plus, you'll have the ability to order personalized iStudio Salons business cards, notecards and notepads online—so your clients always know where to find you. Best of all, you get your very own page on the iStudio Salons web site. Everything is done for you; you provide our marketing partner with information about your services and hours of operation—along with photos of you and samples of your work—and they take care of everything else!

What does that cost?

Nothing! Access to our marketing firm—along with access to our online marketing resources, and your own iStudio Salons web page—is a free service that we offer to all of our salon professionals. Plus, we'll give you 150 high-impact "I've Moved!" cards and envelopes FREE to send to your clients, to let them know about your new salon! (Need more? No problem. You can purchase whatever you need on our online catalog of marketing support materials ongoing for a nominal fee.) We want you to be successful, and helping you transition into our community helps everyone.

I only work part time; can I rent an iStudio for only a few days a week?

Yes. We’ve set up a "part-time" program that allows you to split iStudio time with another salon professional for a small weekly fee. The program is open to our small and large iStudios and can be shared by a maximum of two stylists. Of course, double iStudios are meant to be shared. If you choose to go this route, it would be up to you and the person you are sharing your iStudio with to work out your schedules together.

My business needs something special (i.e., ventilation for a nail tech or a dark, quiet studio for a masseuse). Can you accommodate me?

Yes. Each iStudio Salons location has a few specialty iStudios that are designed to accommodate salon professionals that may need extra ventilation or an extra-quiet space to conduct their work. Please contact us to discuss your options.

Can I count on walk-in customers at my iStudio?
